Last year, we were the proud winners of the Munster Wedding Venue of the Year Award and were really pleased to be shortlisted for the award again this year. Unfortunately, we didn’t win but being shortlisted again hopefully shows that we are maintaining our standards and that we are still very popular with brides and grooms. In fact we consistently receive fantastic feedback on our food and service, and our beautiful Banqueting Suite and professionalism. We always strive to make improvements where we can and to exceed our brides and grooms’ expectations.
At this year’s awards, Tom Meagher, our wedding co-ordinator, was also shortlisted for the National wedding co-ordinator of the year award. Tom didn’t win but he was the only co-ordinator from a Kerry Hotel to be short-listed, so something to be proud of! Tom also surprised a few people by showing off his rather unique moves on the dance floor, after the awards ceremony. Ask him for a little demo if you meet him!
Tom, together with our Sales Manager Sue Ryan, attended the Wedding Conference prior to the awards night and picked up some great tips on, amongst other things, how to connect more with brides and grooms via social networking. They also learnt a little about the latest wedding trends; apparently Honeysuckle is the all-important colour for 2011 and decorative name cards are making a comeback!
If we are interested in talking to us about your wedding; call Sue on 064 66 79333 or e mail email@example.com to arrange a meeting and a viewing of the hotel. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much we care about your wedding at the Kenmare Bay Hotel & Resort.
Winners of the ultimate job in the world – Denise & Mark Duffield-Thomas – have been staying at the Kenmare Bay Hotel for the last couple of days. As well as travelling the world testing out different countries, towns and venus as potential honeymoon destinations, the couple is also trying to break the world record for the highest number of wedding vow renewals. Last night they achieved their 62nd renewal ceremony on Kenmare Bay on board Seafari, with Michael Healy Rae doing the honours! It was a brillliant evening; the sea was like a millpond, the sun kept us warm throughout the cruise and Michael Healy Rae was on fine form. Following the ceremony, the couple was serenaded by Bonane Church Choir who sang ‘The Wedding Song’ for them. Champagne and cake rounded off a beautiful ceremony as Raymond Ross, Seafari’s captain, diligently steered the boat back towards Kenmare Pier. Mark and Denise then enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the Horseshoe Restaurant in town before retiring to their luxury lodge at the Kenmare Bay Hotel & Resort. Check out their travel stories on www.thehoneymoontesters.com. Photos to come – watch this space!

Weekend Weddings at the Kenmare Bay Hotel
Congratulations to our 2 couples – Louise & Niall and Laura & Gideon. Louise & Niall were a little unlucky with the weather on Friday, but it didn’t dampen their spirits nor those of their 300 guests who enjoyed a fantastic day. For Laura & Gideon, it was definitely second time lucky! They had to postpone their wedding from 23rd April, thanks to the Ash Cloud. It poured with rain on 23rd April. They got married on Saturday, 19th June in the most beautiful sunshine and they and all their guests had a brilliant weekend in Kenmare. www.kenmarebayhotel.com/weddings

Best wishes to Mary Fitzgerald, who recently retired as Matron at Kenmare Hospital. A retirement party was held at the hotel for Mary last Friday, attended by 90 people who all enjoyed a sit down 3 course dinner, followed by speeches and entertainment. We wish Mary all the best in her retirement. Check out the photos on our Facebook page!
